Equestrian Campaign

In the fall of 2004 Renee Fisher, the mother of a lesson student, and Lisa Darling, a boarder, teamed up and presented a fund raising plan to Friends of Bellevue. This plan, to raise money to improve and maintain the equestrian center at Bellevue, has been a great success.

farm2With Lisa's help we received grants from the Longwood Foundation and the Welfare Foundation for a total of $50,000. We also received a grant from the Ace Foundation for $5,000 along with a matching donation for another $600. We also received individual contributions which totaled $28,000.

With these donations we were able to improve the drainage and footing in the two outdoor sand arenas and the indoor arena. We have put asphalt down in all the barn aisles and between the barns. We have also installed vents in the roof of the wooden barn to improve the air circulation. In the fall of 2008 we added more footing to the indoor arena to maintain the surface.

Despite our best efforts to save the building we have lost the use of the indoor track. We now use the building for storage. With the decrease in money available to parks in this economic climate we still need contributions to help maintain this historic facility.

Please contact Friends of Bellevue if you wish to make a contribution and remember your contributions will be tax deductible. The Friends of Bellevue has appointed a committee to oversee the funds, assuring they are spent in a manner that best contributes to the welfare of the horses and all riders. Please make your checks payable to "Friends of Bellevue," memo "Equestrian Fund."
